The northern lights appear on the sky all year around; however, during summer when she sky is bright, the lights are invisible to the naked eye. From November throughout March is when the lights are the easiest to spot and look the most vibrant and beautiful. September and October are recommended for people who do not want to experience the extreme arctic cold.

The best places to witness the Northern Lights are in Iceland, as well as up north in Norway, Finland and Sweden.

Ice fishing

There are loads of different locations where ice fishing is an option. Solid frozen lakes make it safe to walk far out, drill a hole, and start fishing.

Rovaniemi

Rovaniemi is famous for being Santa Claus’ hometown. Here you will find loads of planned activities (especially during winter months), such as Santa’s Work Shop, Northern Lights tours, reindeer sleigh rides and farm visits, snowmobiling and skiing.

During winter, there is at least one day where the sun does not rise at all; the darkness brings a very special dark blue light from the sky that reflects onto the snow, giving it the illusion of beautifully glowing while the northern lights usually dance in the sky.
